Recreation at Gold Crest Care Center

Bronx nursing hom

According to the National Council on Aging, research indicates that seniors who stay recreationally engaged can see a delay in the onset of chronic diseases. In addition, by cultivating hobbies and interacting with peers, seniors improve their emotional, spiritual and psychological well-being. This impacts their quality of life, helps them develop lasting relationships and combats loneliness.
This is why residents at Gold Crest Bronx nursing home have their choice of a variety of recreational and community-building activities. With monthly birthday parties, religious services, games, movies, and arts and crafts, our residents can maintain a full and active schedule. Now with the arrival of summer, we’ll be hosting patio barbecues, live entertainment, field trips and more! Many residents invite friends and family to participate in our community events, making each one special.
A variety of our recreational activities a therapeutic focus, to help us treat our residents' physical ailments and combat problems like stress, anxiety and depression. Hand massages are popular among many of our residents. We also offer pet, art and music therapy, as well as sensory stimulation activities intended to boost our residents’ visual, tactile and auditory senses.
Since some of our aging residents need extra help keeping their minds sharp and active, we also offer reality orientation. The objective of this very specialized therapy is to assist those who experience disordered thoughts or who suffer from memory loss. Reality orientation helps participants develop and strengthen the basic mental framework they need to get through daily life. Participants learn how to handle daily routines and maintain behavioral norms, so they can continue to interact with others.
Finally, for those residents who like to maintain a more active day and night life, we offer candle light dinners, exercise activities and dance programs. We have a little something for everyone here at Gold Crest nursing home in NYC, to meet the needs of our diverse and active population of residents.
